Quick Tips

1. What kind of coffee grind should I use with my EspressoWorks Machine?

We recommend purchasing pre-ground coffee, or grind it yourself. The grind should be fine, but not too fine or powdery. If the grind is too fine (feels like powder when rubbed between the fingers) the water will not flow properly and the espresso will not be optimal. When packing the coffee grind in the filter, be sure not to pack too tightly, as this will prevent the water to flow properly through the filter.

2. How much coffee do I put into the Portafilter?

When filling your portafilter with coffee grinds, make sure not to go above the ‘MAX’ line. Going above that line may cause overflowing and spillage during brewing. You are provided with a single and double shot basket. These are different sizes. For a single shot of espresso you will generally use 7g of fine coffee grounds to get 30ml of espresso. For a double shot of espresso you will use 14g of coffee grounds to get 60ml of espresso.

3. When should I clean the machine?

We recommend cleaning the espresso machine after each use. Wait for the machine to cool down then go through the following steps for your machine type:

  • 7-Piece EspressoWorks Espresso Machine
    1. Remove the portafilter from the machine and empty into garbage/sink. Remove the metal basket from the portafilter by lining up the ‘male’ and ‘female’ parts, and use a damp paper towel to clean out and get rid of all the old grinds.
    2. Empty out the drip tray with the excess water that flowed through the machine during brewing.
    3. Remove black wand/steam piece and rinse. Use a damp paper towel to clean the metal pipe that goes under the black wand piece to avoid any milk buildup. Let steam run for 60 seconds to remove any milk residue.
    4. Damp paper towel to the area where the portafilter would go while brewing. Be sure to keep that part clean and fresh as that is the most important location you want to avoid buildup.

    4. If you have used the milk tank, rinse this and fill with clean water. Use the Clean function button to flush this through (takes 5 minutes)
All machines should be deep cleaned and descaled every 2-8 weeks depending on water hardness. The first indications that descaling is required are a large amount of steam being produced and slower brewing of the espresso. The machine indicates at regular intervals that it needs to be descaled.   Limescale deposits have an adverse effect not only on the quality of the espresso and the water, but they also cause power losses and shorten the lifespan of the machine. The thicker a limescale layer is, the more difficult it is to remove.

4. How to Make Different Drinks with Your Machine

  • 7-Piece EspressoWorks Espresso Machine Set
    • Espresso Shot:Simply fill the portafilter with grinds and tamp down firmly. Lock the portafilter into the ‘Lock’ position. Put an espresso cup under the filter. Turn the dial to ‘Espresso’ setting and allow the espresso to flow out. You control the flow manually, so once you hit your desired amount, turn the dial back to the middle setting ‘Off’ and enjoy!
    • Cappuccino/Latte:First pull a shot of espresso, then fill your Frothing Cup with milk and submerge the cup under the steam wand before turning on. Turn the dial to ‘Steam’ setting and move the cup around in circular motion and you will see the milk begin to froth and become steamy hot. Pour the espresso and the milk into a mug and enjoy!
    • Americano:After pulling a shot of espresso remove the portafilter. Place your mug back under and turn the setting back to the left to allow hot water to flow out. Mix the hot water with the espresso and vóila.

      • If you’d like a warm cup to not hinder the temperature of the coffee, be sure to switch on the machine and place the cups on the heating tray for at least 5-10 minutes.
        1. Fill the water tank with water, tamp coffee powder into the portafilter and insert the portafilter into the machine correctly. Power the machine on and wait until the lights on the control panel stop flashing.
        2. Place a cup under the brew head and portafilter
        3. Press the “SINGLE” or “DOUBLE” on the control panel for a single or double espresso respectively
        4. The lights will start flashing as the process begins. Your espresso is ready when the process stops and another beep is emitted.

  • Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato
    1. Fill the water tank with water, tamp coffee powder into the filter and insert the portafilter into the machine correctly
    2. Press the release button while pulling the milk reservoir out from its position concurrently. Remove the milk reservoir cover by pressing the release button on the cover and flipping it up
    3. Pour milk in the milk reservoir over the “MIN” label. Do not exceed the max marking. Place the cover and milk reservoir back in position. Ensure it fits correctly with a click sound. Do not use hot milk.
    4. Fold out the milk nozzle using the lever. Turn the dial on the milk reservoir cover for the milk froth.
    5. Place a suitable cup under the brew head and milk nozzle. Power the machine on and wait until the control panel stops flashing
